Seek help, don't abandon your children – parenting commission urges

The National Parenting Support Commission is urging parents who are finding it difficult to care and provide for their children to seek help.

The Commission says the recent case of child abandonment raises concern.

Last Saturday, an infant girl was abandoned in a shoebox at the Chapelton Hospital in Clarendon.

The Parenting Commission says it understands the grim reality being faced by some parents and guardians noting that effective parenting provides a unique set of challenges, to which many parents feel ill-equipped.

However, the commission says it continues to work in communities and with parenting stakeholders to help them cope and adopt techniques to improve their knowledge and parental skills.
