UPDATE: Janieve now on 400m hurdles list, Kaliese advised of change #RioGoldRush

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil:
Janieve Russell has officially replaced Kaliese Spencer on the entry list for Jamaican athletes registered to compete in the women's 400m hurdles at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Russell's name was absent from the list which was published by the IAAF on Monday morning, but athletics Team Leader Ludlow Watts had told journalists later that day that Russell would compete in the event.

Spencer and her team were, a day later, advised of the adjustment through an email from Watts.

Russell, the top Jamaican in the event and a serious contender for gold here, had received a medical exemption from the Jamaican trials due to injury. Spencer finished third at the event essentially making her selection a provisional one.

Russell was required to prove her fitness before August 8, which she did, as was also confirmed by Watts.

Chef de Mission Vishu Tolan, in trying to explain Russell's absence from the list on Monday, stated that because she was, at the time, an alternate in the event and was not entered to compete in another such as a relay, the Rio 2016 entry system would not allow her submission to be reflected, but that this would change once she is confirmed as one of the three, to represent the nation in the event.

The other representatives in the women's 400m hurdles are national champion Ristananna Tracey and Leah Nugent.
