Victory keeps Jonathan Grant on course

Jonathan Grant High continued their impressive run when they tagged Ardenne High 3-1 in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)-FLOW Manning Cup Group D football match at Barbican Complex yesterday.

The winners won courtesy of goals by Isaac Scott in the 15th minute, Tyrone Small (37th) and Jermaine Shorter (56th). Ardenne pulled a goal back through substitute Rushawn Smith in the 89th minute.

Ardenne ended the game with 10 players after John-Christoff Pringle was issued a red card for violent conduct in the 86th minute.

Jonathan Grant was the better team and Shorter was instrumental in his team's victory that pushed them onto 13 points, while Ardenne remain on seven points.

"The performance today was very good. We came out as a team and fought hard for the win," Shorter told The Gleaner.

"It was an important win for us as the goings is tight in the group. Our aim is to finish on top in the group and move onto the other stage. We are also eyeing the Super Cup spot," the 18-year-old fifth-form student said.

Oneil Thomas, Jonathan Grant's head coach, praised his team for their performance.

"It was more of a spirited performance than the last couple games. The mental part of the game was better. We have two home games coming up, so we will be working on getting maximum points," Thomas said.

Ardenne's head coach, Harold Thomas, says his team will continue fighting in the remaining four games.

"We will continue to fight. The loss is a serious setback to our ambition of advancing from the group. We gave up three soft goals," Harold Thomas said.
