Powell excited ahead of Grand Prix finale

The fourth and final regional meet of the Digicel Grand Prix series, the Central Athletics Championships came to an end at GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sports on Wednesday where Edwin Allen and St Jago High walked away with the top team prizes among the females and males.

Senior sponsorship and development manager at Digicel, Kamal Powell was a proud man after the meet and he is looking forward to tomorrow's finale at the National Stadium, the GC Foster Classic.

"It has been amazing and a wonderful journey so far, this was the fourth of the five meet series and of course the top two from the four championships will make it to the grand finale on Saturday," said Powell.

"Of course Digicel is extremely excited about the type of performances we have seen, the outcome of all four meets and all the athletes performances and the fashion behind this new series and we are looking forward to seeing what will happen. There will be a ding-dong battle inside the National Stadium this Saturday," he said.

Powell spoke about the new format where all teams start from scratch at the finale where no points will be carried over.

"Everybody in the finals will start from scratch and I know all coaches of those athletes, who have qualified will be crunching the numbers based on the finishes across the regions to see exactly how their schools will line up and will be calculating how they can carry home the million dollar for the first place or the two other prizes of $500,000 or $250,000 for second and third places," Powell continued.

"I will call it the World Championships of high school track and field in the National Stadium on Saturday, as teams will be vying for cash prizes of over $15 million and no one should miss this," Powell shared.
