UPDATE: Value of cocaine seized from two including Manchester businessman upped to $21 million
The Narcotics Police is reporting that the value of the cocaine seized from a Manchester businessman and another man yesterday has now been placed at $21 million.
This comes as investigators today indicated that further examination of the packages in which the drugs were allegedly hidden revealed that the total weight was just over 15 kilograms.
The men, whose names are being withheld, are scheduled to appear in the Manchester Parish Court on Wednesday.
The police say they will be interviewed in the presence of their attorneys before being charged with possession of, dealing in and taking steps to export cocaine as well as possession of criminal property.
The Narcotics Police say the businessman’s licensed firearm along with three magazines containing 50 rounds of ammunition were also seized and will be turned over to the Firearms Licensing Authority.
It’s reported that the two men were travelling in a motorcar along the Hatsfield main road when they were signalled to stop and 36 ladies handbags found in a suitcase on the backseat of the car.
The police say a detailed search revealed that all the bags had a false compartment containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine.
