FORMER president of both the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association and Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Patrick Anderson, passed away today at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in Kingston at midday. He was 84.

Anderson had been ailing for some time and was a patient at the UHWI for the past month. Also called "Pops", he was well liked in both major local sports and has played an integral part in the development of youngsters under the umbrella of the Alcan sports programme.

It was also under his leadership that a training camp for junior athletes had started which produced the likes of  Olympic medallists Usain Bolt, Melaine Walker, Sherone Simpson, Kerron Stewart  and several others who were regular members at these  weekend camps at G.C. Foster College.

Barry Watson, a long time friend of Anderson, stated that he was saddened by  his passing.

"The entire sporting  fraternity  in Jamaica will miss Anderson. He was the one who championed the  the call of youth development and was one of the top sporting administrators in Jamaica and he has left a lot of  legacy behind," said Watson. Watson, the president of the Manchester Cricket Association spoke while attending an intercollegiate cricket match at Mico University College.
