Javon Francis produced a strong late charge to win bronze in the men’s 400m final at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Francis stopped the clock at 45.11 seconds to secure his first individual senior international medal as Botswana’s Isaac Makwala ran away with the gold medal in a time of 44.35 seconds.
Second place went to the other Botswana athlete Baboloki Thebe, who was clocked at 45.09 seconds.
The other Jamaicans, Demish Gaye, 45.56 ran sixth and Rusheen McDonald did not finish.
Meanwhile, Anastasia Le-Roy won her 400m semi-final in a season’s best 51.08 seconds, while defending champion Stephenie-Ann McPherson took her semi in 51.21 to secure a lane in the final.
Tovea Jenkins suffered an injury during her warm-up and could not feature at the start.
The women's 400m final will take place at 6:45 a.m on Wednesday.
