More than 200 persons living in downtown Kingston benefited from a health fair at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) on December 1.

The health fair, which took place at the hospital's Out Patient Department North, was held in collaboration with the Insurance Association of Jamaica (IAJ) and the Jamaica Medical Foundation (JMF). Throughout the day, volunteer medical teams from the KPH carried out several health checks, including blood sugar, cholesterol, vision examinations and blood pressure screenings. Additionally, Pap smear for women and prostate-specific antigen tests for men were provided.

Sagicor Life Jamaica Limited and Guardian Life Jamaica also offered blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol tests.

Persons were exposed to healthy-eating education sessions aimed at influencing them to make healthier dietary choices so as to reduce the incidence of non-communicable diseases.

Workout sessions were led by the Physiotherapy Department at the KPH, and they offered blood pressure and heart rate checks before and after endurance, and also flexibility and fitness tests.

Senior Medical Officer for KPH Dr Natalie Whylie expressed appreciation to the IAJ and the JMF for partnering with the hospital to provide free health screening for the downtown Kingston residents.
