With a crack line-up of stars, the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation, organisers of Thursday’s tree-lighting ceremony and concert, are promising an electrifying evening of entertainment for the whole family.

“Jamaica is in a mode of celebration following Toni-Ann’s (Singh) win at Miss World, so the energy going into Thursday is already high,” Jodiann James, public relations officer at the corporation, told The Gleaner.

“Artistes like Ding Dong, who has been doing an amazing job at the event for the past two years, will be back this year with his team. We also have Shenseea and Teejay, who are going to come and bring their best as well,” James said.

In addition to the dancehall stars, the event, which is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. at the St William Grant Park in Kingston, will see performances from gospel artistes Sister Pat, Kukudoo, and Will Harden.

“It’s really an event for the whole family,” James said.

She added that the capital city would be displaying an awesome Christmas tree.

“This event is one of the biggest budgets that we have to expend. No other parish lights a tree that’s as big as ours. And it’s not only the lighting of the tree, it’s the park, it’s the fountain, the general upkeep and decorations, so it gets expensive. And then we have the artistes to pay. We have support from sponsorship, but sponsorship can do so much and no more,” she said.

“But we make a concerted effort each year to have the event because it is for the residents of Kingston and St Andrew. It provides a platform where they can come and enjoy themselves, see some of their favourite acts for free. We have to do it for the people,” James added.
