‘This is an injustice!’

Wadada adminis-trator Daniel Ricketts said he intends to keep his word to fight the Jamaica Football Federation’s (JFF) decision to give Montego Bay United (MBU) the 12th spot in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) next season.

Wadada were denied a playoff game with MBU for the spot because the club missed the JFF’s deadline to meet its registration requirements.

After a meeting between both parties on Tuesday, JFF promised Wadada a decision within 24 hours on whether they would rescind the decision and allow the game.

However, the JFF told Wadada yesterday that the decision to give MBU the spot in the league stands.

“Having reviewed correspon-dence between the JFF and Wadada, it was confirmed that Wadada failed to register their players and officials on the JFF Connect platform by the stated deadline of 5 p.m. on October 1, 2021,” the JFF correspondence read.

WILLING TO FIGHT ‘INJUSTICE’

Ricketts, who had hoped for a favourable response following this week’s meeting, says that he will keep fighting what he calls an “injustice against his club”.

“I don’t know what it is, but even if I have to go to FIFA, that is where I will be heading because this is an injustice, and they saw it at the meeting. I was just waiting for them to make a decision,” he said.

With no relegation last season, and none to take place until after next season, the spot in the JPL was made available by UWI FC after they withdrew days before the league started.

To fill the void, the 11th-place team from the 2018-19 season (MBU), and the third-place team from that season’s playoffs to get into the JPL (Wadada) were scheduled to meet in the decider.
