THE MANAGEMENT of Reggae Boyz defender has come to his defence after claims by his former club, Al Ittihad Alexandria, that the player’s unprofessional behaviour led to his contract being terminated by mutual agreement with the club on the weekend.

Based on reports, the 28-year-old Lowe, who joined the club in November 2020 on a two-year deal, often missed training this season and had shown a clear lack of interest in his team, leading head coach Hossam Hassan to demand his exit.

There were also reports that the player had issues with Hassan, who played him just three times this season, compared to last term when he played 27 matches and helped them to seventh place in the Egyptian Premier League.

But a brief statement from Lowe’s management camp said the player cannot comprehend the narrative being pushed by the club, and although the statement did not go into detail, it insisted the reports are erroneous.

“He [Lowe] can’t speak to, nor understand the narrative that elements in the club are now pushing. That wasn’t his experience and he doesn’t want these statements to in any way affect how he remembers the club and the fans,” the statement read.

The statement also pointed out that it was not the club that initiated an exit for Lowe but the other way around.

“His agent made a request for a mutual termination of the contract which was honoured by the club.

“Damion is thankful for his time spent with Al Ittihad and for the way the club and fans accepted him. He wishes them all the best,” the statement read.

Lowe, who agreed to waive his dues, joined the Alexandria club on a free transfer after his time with the Phoenix Rising ended in November 2020.

In his one and a half seasons, he scored two goals and helped them keep nine clean sheets.

Lowe, who has played six of the Reggae Boyz 2022 World Cup qualifying matches, formerly played for Seattle Sounders, Minnesota United, Tampa Bay Rowdies and Phoenix Rising in the USL and IK Start in the Norwegian first division.

According to his management, word on the player’s next destination will be announced soon.
