Five tips for the road
If you see me ducking, it’s not because I don’t want my boss to see; it’s all thanks to the rhythm and vibe of soca. Here are five tips to keep you safe and comfortable on the road this Carnival Sunday.
1.Wear comfortable shoes and make sure to break them in beforehand to avoid blisters and other discomforts.
2. Protect your skin from the harmful sunrays. This journey is not for the weak, so arm yourself — wear your sunscreen.
3. Make sure you hydrate in-between alcohol. Remember, this is not the typical road march in March or April; it’s Carnival in July — the heart of the summer.
4. Take full advantage of the rest stop. From the make-up tent to the massage area, make good use of whatever is offered.
5. Last but not least, pace yourself. That includes the drinking and the march itself. Drink responsibly and don’t be afraid to rest. Carnival is a full day of festivities; you’re in it for the long haul.
