Jamaica’s lone representative in the men’s 400m final at the World Athletics Championships, Christopher Taylor, finished seventh in a time of 45.30 seconds as the United States’ Michael Norman finally found his way to the top of the podium.

Norman stopped the clock at 44.29, to finish ahead of the returning Kirani James, the Grenadian crossing the line in 44.28. Great Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith (44.66) got the bronze medal.

This was the first medal James was winning since recovering from illness that threatened to end his career.

Also returning to the world stage was World Record Holder Wayde van Niekerk. Van Niekerk was returning from a knee injury he suffered playing touch rugby. That injury also threatened to end his career. He ended fifth in 44.97.

The United States' Champion Allison was fourth in 44.77, while Bayapo Ndori of Botwana was sixth in 45.29.

Jonathan Jones, representing Barbados, finished eighth in 46.13.
