More mixed results for Jamaica at CACs

ACTION ON day four of the 2023 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in San Salvador, El Salvador, yesterday brought mixed results for team Jamaica.
Jamaica’s pair of Mark Blake and Ryck Webb finished 16th overall in the men’s beach volleyball competition after suffering a 2-0 defeat to the St Kitts and Nevis duo of Shawn Seabrookes and St Clair Hodge in what turned out to be a very close contest.
The Jamaicans lost 21-16, 21-19 in the 9-16 calssification encounter.
Jamaica’s women fared better after the pair of Jasmine Kelly and Petal Smith continued their run in the 9-16 classification round, easily dispatching Bermuda’s Lisa Leblanc and Meghan Calhoun 2-0 on the back of a 21-8, 21-10 performance.
LAST SPOT
Swimmer Sabrina Lyn snuck into the final of the women’s 100-metre breaststroke, her third-place finish in heat three of the women’s 100-metre breaststroke in a time of 1:14:12 gifted her the last spot among the eight contesting last night’s final.
Lyn finished behind Byanca Rodriguez of Mexico in a time of 1:09:16, the fastest time through to the final and second-place Emily Silva of Panama, who stopped the clock at 1:10:02 for the third-fastest time of the final.
At press time, the final had yet to be completed.
In the men’s 100-metre freestyle, Sidrell Williams also found the going tough as he only managed to finish fifth in heat three in a time of 52.43. The race was won by Mexico’s Jorge Iga in a time of 48.98.
In men’s boxing, Jamaica’s Daniel Hylton’s progress was stopped at the round-of-16, as he found Haiti’s Kervens Bouche too hot to handle with the five-member judging panel voting 4-1 in favour of the latter.
