The grounds of Guy’s Hill Primary and Infant School in St Catherine were abuzz last Thursday as several students were awarded for academic achievements.

During the red carpet celebration, the students received plaques and trophies for doing well in school.

Shamar Miller was named top boy and the top girl was Chrisanique Mighty.

They have been placed at the St Mary’s High School for being the top students in the most recent Primary Exit Profile examinations.

Justice of the Peace Lynworth Brown encouraged the students to study hard.

He also told the parents present to be involved in their children’s education.

Leroy Dunn, chairman of the school board, said it was an early achievement for the students, who have made their parents, the school and community very proud.

Principal Beverly Cytall said the occasion serves as an incentive to the teachers who imparted knowledge to these students, who spend five days weekly under their care.

“It is a wonderful feeling for us. It shows that the future is well and that there is greatness in all these students,” Cytall said.

The veteran educator said the achievement would provide the impetus for these students going forward.

Several parents and guardians were also acknowledged for their contributions to the school.

The function was held under the theme ‘Excellence in Endeavours’.
