‘I want to do good things’
Experienced Christian wants to push Waterhouse through playoffs
NICKOY CHRISTIAN is one player who knows his way around the Jamaica Premier League (JPL).
The 32-year-old, who started his career with Portmore United, has played for Harbour View, Tivoli, Cavalier, Humble Lion, and Dunbeholden, who he helped to the 2022 JPL final.
However, after five season with the St Catherine club, Christian decided to seek a new challenge, and at the Drewsland Stadium, he says he has found a comfortable home.
“This (moving around) is something that I am used to. I have been around the league. Now I have found a comfortable home, and everything has been good so far.”
“They show me love here at Waterhouse and I want to do good things,” he told The Sunday Gleaner.
Christian, who recently returned from injury after six weeks out, is also looking forward to the knockout stage of the season despite Waterhouse’s underdog tag.
Waterhouse squeezed into the playoffs in sixth position, registering the same number of points as seventh-place Montego Bay United.
“The fact that I was out for six weeks, I am pretty comfortable with where I am at now.
“I am now back at the business end of the competition and I am back to full fitness, so I think I can help my team.
“We like it (being underdogs) like that because nothing is ever given, everything must be earned. So we have to go out there and give our best despite the challenges.
“We finished sixth in the table, so we know we have work to do. But we will be in front of the big crowd and the bright lights at Sabina Park and everyone has to come out and show their class.”
Tivoli defeated Waterhouse 3-0 and 1-0 in two meetings this season but Christian insists that will count for little when they meet again in the playoffs.
“We played them two times in the competition and they defeated us, so you know we have been doing a lot of home work on that.
“But it is a different ball game in the playoffs. So we will do what we have to do.
“The team missed out on the playoffs last season but we are now back, and I know the fans will come out and give their full support.
“And for me, I am definitely looking to put in some big performances because that is what I am here for,” he said.
