Six-time national Davis Cup tennis representative Brandon Burke has been re-elected to the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) board of directors as the player alternate representative for his third straight term.

Burke said it is a privilege to be elected for yet another term at the global organisation which advocates for professional women’s tennis.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to represent the players and feel privileged and validated by the fact that they have elected me to advocate on their behalf for a third term,” he said. “I am motivated to work with our team to continue to make strides that will have a lasting positive impact on our players and the organisation as a whole.”

In his role as the player alternate representative, Burke works alongside fellow board members such as Julia Boserup, Anja Vreg and Kurt Zumwalt to support the best interests of all players within the WTA management.

Burke said the opportunity is one where he can further the development of women’s tennis.

MASSIVE ACHIEVEMENT

He was initially elected to role back in 2020, aged 27. At the time, Burke stated it was a massive achievement in his career, especially for someone at his age.

He reflected on his first election to the post and said it came as a surprise to have been chosen for the role.

Burke described his first few years as a learning process as he studied from his fellow board members and from the athletes he represents.

“At 27 years old, when I was first elected to this position, I was honestly a bit surprised. I felt like in some ways the players saw me as an investment into their sport – someone who had a strong tennis background but did not necessarily know the ins and outs of the business side of tennis,” he explained.

“I really used the first year or so of my tenure to be a sponge and to learn from everyone around me and to really try to get an understanding of the organisation and where my place was in it.”

Burke also serves as the chairman for the Board of Women’s Tennis Benefit Association and sits on the board of directors for the WTA Foundation.

The WTA Foundation is an arm of the WTA tour which serves to make a positive impact and promote equality, education, leadership and health and wellness.

In addition to those roles, Burke also works with the Emerging Leaders Council for the International Tennis Hall of Fame, as well as the Gore Developments Limited and the Gore Family Foundation in Jamaica.
