WESTERN BUREAU:

Beginning on November 16, Avelo Airlines, as part of the largest expansion in the company’s history, will launch its first scheduled international route between Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay; and Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Connecticut, United States.

According to Andrew Levy, Avelo Airlines founder and chief executive officer, the airline, an American ultra-low-cost airline with its headquarters in Houston, Texas, will be the only airline offering non-stop service between Montego Bay and the capital region of Connecticut.

“We are proud to announce new non-stop service between Montego Bay and Hartford, Connecticut, as we introduce a new era of convenient, affordable and reliable travel in Jamaica,” said Levy. “This new service will make visiting Connecticut’s capital region an easy and affordable experience. We also look forward to making Montego Bay’s famous beaches, as well as its vibrant energy and laid-back charm, easier than ever for Connecticut travellers to enjoy.”

Connecticut is home to one of the largest Jamaican communities in the world, boasting the fifth largest population of residents with Jamaican ancestry among all US states. According to census data, there are more than 56,000 residents with Jamaican ancestry in Connecticut.

Shane Munroe, the chief executive officer at MBJ Airports, the operators of the Sangster International Airport, in welcoming Avelo Airlines to Montego Bay, said the service will offer new options to travellers.

“We are delighted to welcome Avelo Airlines and their new route connecting Hartford, Connecticut to Montego Bay. This service not only expands travel options for our passengers but also strengthens our international network,” said Munroe. “We look forward to providing travellers with an exceptional experience at MBJ and are confident this route will be a success for Avelo Airlines, and the travel and tourism sector in Jamaica.”

Daryl Vaz, minister of science, energy, telecommunications and transport, has welcomed Avelo Airlines bold plans, which has basically opened another frontier for possible new businesses, as Connecticut is known as the insurance capital of the world.

“Jamaica welcomes the announcement of scheduled flight operations by Avelo Airlines. The airline will operate from Hartford, Connecticut to Montego Bay on a route that is not currently served by any other airline and will provide direct air connectivity to US citizens and the Jamaican diaspora within the Hartford area,” said Vaz. “This new air operation will continue to deepen relations between Jamaica and United States under the current open skies agreement.”

According to Avelo Airlines, among their special features are, “families can travel with ease, knowing every child 14 and under will be automatically seated with an accompanying adult at no additional cost … and one-third of its seats are extra legroom seats, ranging from 32 inches to more than 36 inches, offering a more comfortable experience for customers who value more space.”
