The People's National Party (PNP) is calling for in-depth investigation into the security threat reported at Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness' residence on Wednesday night.

Opposition Leader Mark Golding, who was speaking at a PNP press conference this morning, expressed his sympathies for members of the Holness family, and called for those responsible for the act to be brought to justice.

“We absolutely abhor any such conduct. We call upon the security forces, law enforcement to investigate this thoroughly, and if there are any perpetrators, to bring them to justice,” Golding said.

On Wednesday evening, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) deployed increased police presence to Beverly Hills, St Andrew, where Prime Minister Holness and his family reside, because of a legitimate security threat to him and his household.

The JCF said the deployment was initiated in response to credible intelligence gathered.

“The swift and effective action by our officers successfully repelled this threat,” the JCF stated in a media release.

The constabulary said it will continue to maintain a presence at the location in line with standard security protocols.

Opposition Senator Donna Scott-Mottley said this threat should concern all Jamaicans.

“We all were very concerned about the reports, as unclear as they are, about the need for multiple police to turn up at their residence. We Jamaicans are very concerned that our democratic traditions be protected, and there should be no attempt to threaten the prime minister nor his family,” she said.

PNP's General Secretary Dr Dayton Campbell wants swift action against those involved.

“We do not condone any form of threats being made to any who practise within this space or to any individual at all, and we believe the police should investigate the matter thoroughly and those who they find that were associated with those threats should be brought to justice in a very timely manner,” he said.
