Jeremiah pleased with William Knibb progress

WILLIAM KNIBB Memorial High School’s coach Dwight Jeremiah described yesterday’s 3-0 win over Cedric Titus, in an ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup Zone D game at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium, the best performance to date.

The game, a part of a doubleheader, came after Spot Valley High School beat a winless Muschett 3-0 as well.

William Knibb took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute, courtesy of Joshua Walker, before Jaheem Brown doubled the lead in 50th from a freekick.

Some wonderful play in the middle of the park scythed open the Cedric Titus defence to allow Orville Brown a thumping finish 17 minutes later.

“I think many persons doubted us after beating Discovery Bay 1-0. We went back to training, became more creative, and the first goal epitomised everything that we did in training. You get three points, just take it and go back and work,” Jeremiah said.

“For me to be here in the stadium and the atmosphere and what happened, I say to ISSA, find your way here again,” Jeremiah said of playing at the multi-purpose stadium.

In the earlier game, Spot Valley’s Chrisano Lawrence opened the scoring in the 47th minute. Kanye Clarke then made up for missing a penalty with his 52nd-minute effort before Stevan Mullings completed the job in the 75th.

Damion Nelson, coach of Spot Valley High, said, despite the scoreline, the game was far from easy.

“What we prepared for was to keep the ball. We started well but weren’t getting the chances. Muschett put pressure on us but, in the second half, we stepped up to the task and got the victory,” Nelson said

“It is a wonderful feeling being undefeated, but every game is like a final to us. Every team is going to come at us, so we have to just put in more work, be more consistent, and motivate the youngsters.”

The result keeps William Knibb atop the zone with 12 points with their fourth win. Spot Valley are second with 12 points as well, but with a smaller goal difference. Cedric Titus remains third with six points, and Muschett remain last without a point.

On Tuesday, William Knibb will face Spot Valley at William Knibb, Cedric Titus go to Noranda Sports Complex for a game against Discovery Bay, while Muschett play against Holland High at Muschett High.
