Glenmuir perfect as Clarendon College make it through

FOLLOWING A 3-0 win at home over Paul Bogle in their final match of the second round of the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup football competition, coach Andrew Peart is now looking at recovery.

Former Denbigh High player, Dunsting Cohen, followed up on his two goals against Clarendon College to score in the eighth and 55th minutes while Orane Watson scored in the 48th.

The win ensured the Clarendon team finished atop Group 7 with maximum nine points, scoring seven goals without conceding.

Peart was pleased with the win, which knocked Paul Bogle out of the competition, pushing them down to third after Clarendon College, who started the day trailing them, got by Titchfield 2-0.

Clarendon ended on six points, a loss to Glenmuir their only blemish.

“A good win for us. Coming into the game, we knew that we just needed a point to top the group and we did very well, winning 3-0 against a team that was still in contention to make it to the next round. The key for the team now is to recover for the next round, as we do not know who our opponents will be,” said Peart.

After starting the second round on a high with a 3-1 win in their first game against Titchfield, Paul Bogle stumbled against Clarendon College on Saturday, with their coach Davion McKenzie already saying it would have been difficult to qualify.

Still, Paul Bogle had a plan, but it was not executed well.

“We did not play with the instructions given. The field was a passing pitch due to heavy water under the surface due to rain, and the guys did not execute well. Kudos to Glenmuir, however, as they are a good team and we will just have to go back to the drawing board and come back next year,” he said.
