Whitmore unhappy after another JPL draw

Mount Pleasant Academy’s coach, Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore, has expressed his disappointment after yesterday’s 0-0 draw against Waterhouse FC in the Jamaica Premier League.

It was the third consecutive draw for Mount Pleasant, and Whitmore was disappointed with the result.

“I am disappointed with the result and the performance. It is a tough draw, but we have to regroup and come again. We dominated possession, but there was something lacking in the final third of the field. We didn’t take enough risks this afternoon in trying to move the ball forward. We have to get numbers in front of the opponent’s goal,” Whitmore said after the match, which was played at the Drax Hall Sports Complex.

“There is a game on Sunday here against Tivoli. It is a quick turnaround. We have to look at some of the things that we did and what we can improve on going into that game,” Whitmore said.

Waterhouse are second in the league on 13 points, the same as leaders Montego Bay United, who have a better goal difference. Mount Pleasant is fifth on nine points.

Meanwhile, Waterhouse assistant coach Damion Gordon said overall, it was a good game.

“We will grow from here and get better. I think we were excellent in difficult moments. I think, however, that we should have finished those two chances that we got, but we were very bold and compact when we were in possession. Our goalkeeper and captain (Kemar Foster) was excellent,” Gordon said.

“In our next game, we look forward to being more clinical in front of goal, and we also can do a lot better with defending,” he added.

While Mount Pleasant outplayed their opponents during the game, they failed to convert a number of clear-cut chances.

Waterhouse, too, got a fair amount of chances to steal a win in a hostile environment but came up short.

A golden opportunity presented itself for Mount Pleasant in the 63rd minute but Daniel Green’s penalty was saved by Waterhouse goalkeeper Foster.

Green managed to cut through the stern defence by Waterhouse and made another shot attempt at goal, but Foster dived well to keep a clean sheet.
