Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Senator Kamina Johnson Smith is in Buenos Aires, Argentina to represent the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) at the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting.

In a statement, Johnson Smith said matters on the agenda include multilateralism and global governance as well as fair and sustainable development.

She added that matters of great priority to the region such as climate change, resilience and the graduation of middle-income countries would fall within these areas.

“The G20 is a grouping which controls more than 80% of the global economy and a forum which addresses the international community’s most pressing challenges. Participating in these meetings therefore provides a new platform within which we can use Jamaica’s voice in the region’s engagement with our global counterparts. We deeply appreciate the inclusive approach of the government of Argentina which issued this invitation and has provided this opportunity under their Presidency,” Johnson Smith said.

She travelled to Buenos Aires from Madrid, where she participated in an Official Visit to the Kingdom of Spain.
