Delay in kick-off for KSAFA Super and Major leagues

The Kingston and St Andrew Football Association’s (KSAFA) Super and Major leagues will not go ahead at the end of the month as was originally announced. According to KSAFA president Mark Bennett these competitions will now begin next month.
Bennett explained that the association is still trying to tie up an additional sponsor and they have put the start of the leagues on hold until those discussions are concluded.
“We still have Campari, but the other sponsor we are pursuing has not been finalised. More will be revealed in the coming days,” he said.
“We will be looking to start by the end of February. We will be a month behind, but we are hoping to conclude things shortly and get them streamlined.”
He pointed out that the preparedness of the teams is also in question and that it makes a lot of sense to give the clubs more time for their preparations.
“The biggest concern is the readiness of the teams, but we anticipate that things will flow smoothly as we go along. All other things are in place. Registration will commence shortly. We had issues with the referees, but we met and decided on a course of action and it is just a matter of finalising with the sponsors and the teams getting themselves ready,” he added.
Last season the competitions were played only over one round before the play-off; however, he assured that both leagues would return to their extended format this term.
“They (clubs) are anxious to know what is the package (prize money) and what the format of the competition will be. Certainly it will not be like the one round last year. We are prepared for a full league where the teams play each other twice.
“Then we will have the play-off round starting with the semifinals. We will also have a mid-season final,” he said.
