Subi for life! - Profile: Jason Timothy Charles Givans

At 20 years of age, this young man is a specialist in the maintenance of drones. A drone could simply be described as an unmanned aerial vehicle that is used for various purposes. These may include taking videos or photographs of buildings or hard-to reach-places.

He began his academic life at St Peter and Pauls Preparatory School and then moved on to Jamaica College. He was successful in his City and Guilds courses, where he received his diploma in automotive technology.

"I have always admired and loved the Mitsubishi Evolution, however, ever since I got a taste of the Subaru in my driving diet, my mind has been changed to the Subaru," said Jason Timothy Charles Givans, who owns a 2002 Subaru WRX.

Givans strongly believes that perseverance is a prime factor when travelling the road of hard work and success. According to him, life is about having the right attitude. "One should always work through any situation despite the potholes and hurdles. Sometimes you may feel to give up, but don't. Keep plodding and pressing on," he said.

VERY SPECIAL

Givans is so in love with his Subaru that he named it 'Kimmy' because his girlfriend's middle name is Kim. "So both Kim and Kimmy are very special to me."

In addition to giving the car a name, he has also changed the original colour from 'Wall Rally Blue' to 'Hyper Blue.'

Givans is of the view that driving should be looked upon as an enjoyable and stimulating challenge to both the mind and body. "When done properly, it can be one of the most delightful pastimes of contemporary living, and equally, when it is done carelessly or with fearful restraint, it can be a regrettable nightmare."

Givans said that for this year, he plans to do a general cleaning up of his Subaru. He has plans to install a bigger top-mounted intercooler, down pipe, and turbo.

These alterations are widely practised in the auto world to help improve a car's performance. A turbocharger is a centrifugal supercharger driven by exhaust gases. It consists of an exhaust-driven turbine, a housing into which air is drawn for compression by another turbine (driven by the exhaust turbine), and a control system that limits boost pressure to avoid the risk of internal damage. Unlike a supercharger, a turbocharger does not consume engine power, instead, it makes use of otherwise wasted energy in the exhaust stream to increase an engine's power output.
