Last Wednesday, April 18, 2018, Silver Star Motors, in association with Mercedes-Benz, held a private viewing of the Caribbean's first Mercedes-AMG GT R, nicknamed The Beast of Green Hell.

Celebrated as the first in the Caribbean, Silver Star Motors introduced the special supercar at the Mercedes Showroom to car aficionados and Mercedes-Benz experts who were in attendance.

The Mercedes-AMG line continues to grow and is expanding the top end of its product range with the introduction of the AMG GT R.

"The Mercedes-AMG GT R has raised the bar. We at Silver Star Motors were the first to introduce the Jamaican market to the supercar genre with the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Now, we are proud to introduce our totally new sports car concept from Mercedes-AMG: The AMG GT R, the first of its kind in the Caribbean, delivering benchmark driving technology," said Duncan Stewart, managing director, Stewart's Automotive Group.

He further went on to elaborate: "Imagine a handcrafted Mercedes that has a top speed of 319kph, accelerates to 100kph in 3.6 seconds, has the throaty growl of a Bi-Turbo V8, which produces 577hp, with a distinctive sporty design that delivers an exceptionally emotional experience, and you will have painted the GT R's picture. I have never driven a car that delivers such a raw and unbridled driving experience, and I am excited to share it with Jamaican sports car enthusiasts!"

Co-managing Director of Stewart's Automotive Group Jackie Stewart Lechler added to her brother's presentation by speaking on her family's confidence in the brand.

"The Stewart family is superproud to be associated with the Mercedes-Benz brand, the best or nothing! It has been an exciting journey for us introducing innovative products and events such as the She's Mercedes series. Over the last eight years, we have been able to ignite the passion in Jamaica's motoring public, creating fans and family. Tonight, we showcase the unique Mercedes-Benz experience, performance, and style. We look forward to our continued path as Jamaica's only family-owned-and-operated dealership! We strive to be the best or nothing."

The third member of the AMG GT family is the new spearhead of the AMG model range. Featuring pioneering technologies, the AMG GT R design was inspired by race car performance on a track.

Its development was largely based on vast motor-racing experience in AMG GT3 customer sport and the German Touring Car Masters. Figures such as zero to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 318km/h, combined with the outstanding driving dynamics, will undoubtedly translate into extremely fast laps on the racetrack.

The new exclusive colour - 'AMG green hell magno' - establishes a visual link to the "Green Hell", the nickname for the legendary "North Loop" track of the Nurburgring, a motorsport complex located in Germany. This homage emphasises that the car's roots are firmly embedded in the racetrack.

To ensure that the driver has an unforgettable experience, the vehicle comes with intelligent lightweight construction incorporating aluminium and carbon and specific reinforcements in the body shell.

In addition, there is also the uprated twin-turbo V-8 engine with the specifically adapted seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the innovative aerodynamics with active components, and the new suspension with active rear-wheel steering and uniball joints.

"I am so excited and honoured to be a part of the team introducing the Mercedes-AMG GT models to Jamaica and the Caribbean. So far, we have imported three GT models: the GT, GT S, and the only GT R in the Caribbean. Silver Star Motors and I are looking forward to sharing more of the AMG lifestyle with our loyal customers. The Best or Nothing!," stated Amanda Lechler, brand manager, Silver Star Motors Ltd.
