Refreshed Powerful Women & Men perform June 5

The 16th staging of the Powerful Women & Men Perform for Charity Show has a number of new faces, a new venue, and several surprise elements. It is slated for Sunday, June 5 at the Douglas Orane Auditorium, Wolmer's Boys' School, National Heroes Circle, starting at 5 p.m. Parking is at The Mico University College. The show is being presented by the Mustard Seed Communities in association with TVJ and RJR 94FM.

Over the past 15 years, more than $50 million has been generated for the Mustard Seed Communities to assist with the care of more than 400 abandoned, disabled, HIV-AIDS affected children and pregnant teenagers being accommodated in its 12 homes across the island.

"We have at least three internationally renowned personalities, one of whom is a friend of Jamaica who will be flying in specially to perform on the show. We feel honoured that these persons could want to help the Mustard Seed Communities and make such an effort to join us on stage," said Thyra Heaven, founder and chair of the Powerful Women & Men Perform for Charity Show.

They are David Neita, attorney, motivational speaker, lecturer and poet based in London; Claudja Barry-Alexander, former lead singer with Boney M, and Jasmine Rand, attorney and Harvard professor who represented the Trayvon Martin family in the US and is currently working on the Michael Brown Ferguson case.

Newcomers

Popular repeat performers will be joined on stage by newcomers such as Jacqueline Sharp, regional head for Scotiabank Caribbean North & Central, Scotiabank Jamaica; Audrey Tugwell-Henry, senior general manager, Retail Banking, National Commercial Bank (NCB); Janet Farr,

president of the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ); Akeem Mignott, president, Jamaica Youth Theatre; Dr. Sanetta Myrie, Miss Jamaica (World); and Jennifer 'Jenny Jenny' Small, radio and TV personality; Rochelle Cameron, VP, Legal and Regulatory for FLOW. Designers Keneea Linton and Dexter Huxtable have committed to providing outfits for the first time in the fashion segments.

The production team of Ewan Simpson, Aston Cooke and new choreographer Jasmine Taylor, led by Weston Haughton, have been working to get the performers ready.

No tickets will be sold at the gate, but are available at $2,500 per adult and $1,000 for children at all Island Grill locations in Kingston and Portmore; Liguanea Drug & Garden; Fontana Pharmacy, Barbican Square; Mega Mart at Waterloo Road, Signatures Boutique, Lee Gore's Business Centre and Mustard Seed Communities, 1 Mahoe Drive.
