The 2017-18 Met Opera Live in HD season opens at Carib 5, with a new production of Vincenzo Bellini's masterpiece, starring Sondra Radvanovsky as the Druid priestess and Joyce DiDonato as her arch rival, Adalgisa. Tenor Joseph Calleja is Pollione, Norma's unfaithful lover, and Carlo Rizzi conducts.
The storyline features Norma, who is anguished by the discovery of her lover's plans to desert her for a young novice priestess, Adalgisa, whom he will take back to Rome. This supreme tragedy will be seen worldwide on Saturday, October 7, 2017, as the first in the Met's 12th year of live cinema broadcasts.
