The Met: Live in HD presents 'Marnie' at Palace Cineplex

Who is she? Why does she do it? Nico Muhly's musical drama answers all the questions from Winston Graham's 1961 novel. The story's baffling central character is a glamorous and troubled woman in late-1950s England who moves from job to job, changing her look

and identity, compulsively embezzling money from employers. In a flawed society, with both the individual and the social milieu, she conceals her inner turbulence behind sophisticated faÁades.

Mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard sings the enigmatic Marnie, and baritone Christopher Maltman is the man who pursues her - with disastrous results. The opera premiered at English National Opera, London, 2017, and is the second of Muhly's operas commissioned by the Met. The Met: Live in HD Marnie shows this Sunday, 11: 30 a.m. at Palace Cineplex.
