Having increased to two shows last year, the Best Care Foundation is this year reverting to hosting one charity show.

Speaking with The Gleaner, Everett Lewis, director of the foundation, explained that having done well in Kingston over the years, the organisation decided it was time to expand. Last year, in addition to the show in Kingston, a show was also held in Santa Cruz.

However, after experiencing huge losses from the Santa Cruz show, organisers decided to revert to hosting just one event.

"We're only having one show this year. Last year, we thought we were ready for two shows, but we suffered a huge loss from the Santa Cruz show. Folks just did not come out for that, and so we have to reorganise and re-strategise. We won't rule out hosting another show outside of Kingston in the future, but for now, we're focusing on this one show."

Lewis also said that the loss caused the organisation to fall well below their intended target of raising $4 million, bringing in only half of that.

"The Santa Cruz show did not turn out how we wanted, and so, we lost there, but we were still grateful for the support we received. We're looking forward to the same or even more support this year as we get ready for Sunday."

Late with promotion

Admitting that the foundation is late with its promotion of the event this year, Lewis said they have set a target that they think is attainable.

"This year, because we're running a bit late with everything, we are not quite as ambitious as we were in previous years. We're hoping to raise over $1 million, and we look forward to Jamaica's support in helping us meet that target."

This year, the show will feature comedians Leighton Smith, Lemon, Mr Confidence, and Pretty Boy Floyd. They will be accompanied by two Trinidadian comedians: Marc Trinidad and Tommy Josephs. The event will be hosted by Deon Silvera, and the show will take place at the Karl Hendrickson auditorium.

The Best Care Foundation is an organisation that provides for children who are mentally and physically challenged.
