Capturing the hearts of many worldwide with warmth and authenticity, Meet the Mitchells provides the ultimate in home entertainment for families, couples, and even singles.

This YouTube series is the brainchild of local celebrity Tami Chin Mitchell. The concept was born out of her desire to do a blog eight years ago. She told The Gleaner, “I shied away from doing it because I wasn’t sure how. The time just wasn’t right,” She had no idea that it would grow into this must-watch online programme.

For Mitchell, family means everything. “It’s how we begin our lives. It’s what takes us through, and it becomes that guiding force.” She continued by saying: “My family and I still talk every single day. They know everything about me. They are the strongest link to my past and the people most likely to stand with me in the future. We’re creating that kind of unit that you look to and depend on in our own home for shelter and support.” It’s no wonder that this sentiment resonates as the prevailing theme in her reality series. And it doesn’t get any more real, crazier, cooler, or sweeter than this!

If you are unfamiliar with the channel, the episodes feature all the boys – Jaxen, Atlas, Oz, and Alex – along with the king and queen of the pack, Wayne and Tami. Making a special appearance is Maureen a.k.a Momo. Picture harmonised lullabies, reports, and hangouts, bouts of laughter and fun times, competition and challenges, dance-offs, singing sessions, drive-outs, couple’s story time, and so much more.

The Frozen singer confessed that content for the show is not previously created. “We don’t come up with any content. The content is all around us. What you see is 17 to 25 minutes of a day in our lives. It’s just a prips, a peek. The family goes through the whole day on its own. We are really documenting moments that happen in a day.”

Daily activities in quarantine

The disguised blessing of lockdown has pushed more families to create activities for their children. For the Mitchells, it has been no different. “Homeschooling landed on Wayne’s shoulders because I actually went to work throughout the pandemic. But we all had to be a part of keeping the boys entertained and engaged partly because of COVID-19. We know our children even more now, which is amazing.”

The overwhelming response of love and support the Mitchell family has got from fans has just been incredible, and she is so grateful. “I really believe that people have connected with us. It has been wonderful to witness and be on the receiving end of the support.” Mitchell also expressed appreciation to those who can relate despite what some may say about the celebrity status. “Sometimes when you’re a ‘celebrity’, people believe that you have this perfect, beautiful life. But it’s imperfect, it’s messy, it’s normal, still beautiful, and people can identify with that.”

She does, however, unsubscribe, block, and delete impossible social media titles, “I try not to attach any pressure to my family and relationship. I detach myself from hashtags like supermom and marriage goals - no thanks.” Mitchell has a really loving relationship with her husband, Wayne, on and off the camera. “I’m really glad people are getting a chance to see how we operate. It’s not without its faults or our own quarrels, squabbles, and disagreements, but we work through things and we have been for as many years as we have been together.” Mitchell believes everyone should create their own marriage goals and try to live up to those. “Hopefully, we create some guidance for people,” she added.
