Samory-I hails influence of son Jahseh

Following the release of his debut solo album in November, Samory-I is attributing his success to his son, Jahseh.
The three-year-old, who accompanied his father to Grizzly’s Plantation Cove in St Ann for the 30th staging of Rebel Salute, could be seen on night one of the festival gleefully frolicking backstage.
Though not perturbed enough to speak himself, Samory-I told The Gleaner, “His life is amazing. The boss work hard all week at school, it’s time to play you know. Dem say that make Jack a dull boy and nothing cyah dull round rasta.”
Marvelling at his offspring, the roots-reggae singer explained that he inspired the entire project.
Explaining the importance of the music he said, “It is more than that to me. The album is named after my son. It is inspired from the strength that he gives me every day and the will to live. It is more than just music for me. This is my everything that I just pour out on a beat.”
Strength was released on November 17, 2023.
Often complimented for his eclectic voice, the Stormy Nights singer said he found his sound by mimicking modern legends.
“It’s just how I feel the music,” he began. “I was inspired by a lot of old [singers], like I never knew I could sing until I listened to Stevie Wonder and people like that [and] until mi a try sing back dem song. I guess the elders inspired me with the sound.”
Though he is yet to tour his project, he says the run will kick off this March .
“I have a few tours lined up. The first tour starts in the UK, Manchester, I think, or Birmingham. The second one starts in Germany in the summer.”
