Governor General Sir Clifford Campbell pins sashes on Miss Mona contestants
Governor General Sir Clifford Campbell presided over the sash-pinning ceremony for contestants in the Miss Mona Contest at King’s House on Monday. Sir Clifford praised the contestants for their beauty and encouraged them to let it be an integral part of their personalities. This event marked the beginning of several planned activities for the contestants, including a dinner at the Golden Grill and judging sessions at the Golden Dragon Restaurant. The final crowning event will take place at the Mona fair grounds on December 9.

Miss Mona contestants receive their sashes
Sir Clifford Campbell, the governor general, pinned sashes on contestants in the Miss Mona Contest at King’s House on Monday.
Sir Clifford complimented the girls on their beauty and expressed the hope that they would not allow the beauty to remain “skin deep” but that it would be an integral part of their personality.
At this ceremony, Carolyn Goulbourne was chosen to wear the sash for Olga’s Fashion Sales; Faith Plummer, for Sharon Lynn Originals; Christine Henriques, for Lithographic Printers; Diane Levy, for Signart Displays Ltd; Carmen McKoy, for Swiss Watch and Jewellery (Lane Plaza); Angella Maxwell, for Coates Bros Ja Ltd; and Francis Maxwell, for Arawak Woodworking Estb Ltd.
The sash-pinning ceremony was the first in a number of events planned for the contestants.
Today, there will be a dinner at the Golden Grill, Golden Dragon Restaurant, Manor Plaza, where the contestants will be judged for the first time.
The second judging will be on Sunday at a poolside party at the Flamingo Hotel at 10:30 a.m.
The final event is the fair to be held at the Mona fair grounds on Saturday, December 9 when Miss Mona will be crowned.
Winston Cooke, a member of the committee; Danny Burrowes, chairman; Alfred D’Costa, from Signart Displays; and Dennis Ziadie, from Sharon Lynn Originals also attended the sash-pinning ceremony.
