Caring for your curves

A sneak peek of fabulous fashion from Mutamba.

Full-figured women are no longer smaller in number but larger in life and personality. Well, that is certainly the case for those born and raised in the Caribbean.

Women can now embrace their size, celebrate their diverse beauty and care for their curves at the first-ever Curvy Caribbean Conference (CCC). The two-day conference, hosted by local entrepreneur and popular radio show host Alisia Jarrett in association with Knotts Francis Eventures, will feature international plus-size models and personalities geared towards tapping into a greater version of you.

According to Jarrett, "I want to use the Curvy Caribbean Conference to talk about us, the challenges and pressures of society and how we can confidently embrace who we are, where we are right here and now, and also to boost our egos with gorgeous hairstyles, make-up and fabulous clothing."

OFFICIAL LAUNCH

Flair caught up with the CCC team at the official launch at the House of Neahlis (local stylist) on Ardenne Road last Tuesday night, and let's just say we're already excited. Designers and fashionistas alike gathered on the lawns for the historic event, and mingled over Lent-oriented hors d'oeuvres and mixed cocktails.

Master of the ceremonies Gianna Fakhourie, who was an absolute vision of fabulosity in royal blue from Kerry Kaye's Boutique, began the formal proceedings and introduced CCC Conceptualiser Alisia Jarrett, along with CCC ambassadors Carolyn Cooper and Aloun Assamba, who took to the stage to share their personal experiences with fat shaming and expressed ways in which we could empower each other, as women, to be fabulous at any size.

Speaking of expression, the CCC dancers blazed trails with their performance to Ed Sheeran's Shape of You. And just when you thought they just couldn't top that, they showcased fine 'full-figured' fashion from Alisia Jarrett, Num Num Delicious, TNT Fashion, House of Neahlis, Kerry Kaye's Boutique, and Design Studio and Mutamba.

The conference, scheduled for April 8 and 9, will include meet-and-greet, workshops, curvy fitness, curvy fashion and shopping. So, set the date and get ready to participate.
