As with pre-workout nutrition, it is important to get adequate hydration. During exercise, you lose water and electrolytes. Replenishing these after a workout facilitates recovery.

The days are getting cooler, and while many of us are happy that summer is over, other persons' skin may be suffering. So, this week on DIY Jo, I am catering to men.

Men generally have thicker skin than women and, therefore, need more moisture. Plus, no one wants to look ashy at the most wonderful time of the year!

This week, I am giving you a few tips on how to keep you all smooth for your lady love. Don't worry, I have toned down on the DIY a bit this week, because I am aware that not many men have the patience for whipping and mixing. So, minimal prep is required.

1. Drink water: Yes, I give this tip often, but it cannot be emphasised enough. Now more than ever, you will need it. You will not feel the urge because you are feeling cool, but you need to be drinking as much as you would in the summer months. Your body needs it and it does wonders in keeping your skin moist.

2. Go organic: Some of the lotions you buy in the stores have many chemicals and you have to reapply often. But if you get raw shea or mango butter (mango butter has natural SPF), they both moisturise well, and you will not need to constantly reapply. If you are so inclined, you can add a bit of water to the butter and whip it for better absorption into the skin.

3. For extra-dry skin: If you have extra-dry skin or eczema, you might need a boost. You can either add a bit of glycerine to the mixture above or you can add coconut oil, argan oil or avocado oil to your daily lotion and shake well. Glycerine is best but it might be a bit harder to mix in with your daily lotion. So, if you have the biceps and patience, you can also use this instead of carrier oils.

4. Do not forget the face: I get it, you do not want to look greasy. But a stripping face is a lot worse than a little shine. You can either use argan oil with a bit of aloe gel or you can add a bit of aloe gel to your moisturiser. It will help to get the moisture deep into the skin.

5. Scalp needs moisture too: Especially if you are bald, please take care of your scalp, and not with body lotion. You can use shea butter or hair moisturising lotion or butter. I do not recommend oil because since you have no hair to absorb the excess, it tends to spread to the forehead, causing you to shine even when you think you have massaged it in properly. If you have hair, moisturise after you wash your hair daily, and moisturise while it is still damp.

Bonus: Moisturise your body as soon as you step out of the shower. Do not wait until you're bone dry before you add moisturiser.
