It was a Sunday fun day on May 16 when families and foodies gathered to witness and partake in the art of sweetness at the second annual SweetArt Bake and Cake Decorating Expo.

All roads led to The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, and patrons used the opportunity to embark on a euphoric experience in a paradise of sugary delights.

The whirlwind tour took visitors on a journey with the likes of veterans Joy of Food, Jodicakes and Sugabuzz, who all tantalised taste buds with flavourful treats. Shanna's Pastry Craze and Peta Bakes drew the crowd with their delectable offerings, while Cupcaketeria and Surprisingly Sweet JA changed the dessert game with scrumptious bacon cupcakes and a wide assortment of tasty vegan pastry, respectively. Lola's Desserts, Toniann Creary, Sheen's Cake Couture, Go! Cakes and Free Form Factory made their names known with signature sweets which had many returning for more.

Organo Gold and Courts were seen shaking things up in different corners of the room with smoothies and shakes, while Caribbean Teas and CPJ also balanced out the desserts, serving as beverage central in providing complimentary hot and cold beverages.

Benjamin's and Kerrygold educated the public about their products, while Maggi, in collaboration with KukUp Kreations, showcased how coconut milk could be used to produce mouth-watering desserts.

One of the highlights of the evening was a demonstration by celebrity cake artist Mike McCarey of Mike's Amazing Cakes, who conducted a cake-sculpting workshop displaying his exemplary cake-decorating skills for all to see.

When it came to the awards segment of the evening, it was the audience who was in the judge's chair as they were asked to choose the people's choice winner. The clear winner was Sweet Mischief Jamaica, who walked away with not one, not two, but three trophies for the night, including the wedding cake category.

The cartoon category was won by Fabulous Cakes by Alana with her Cat in the Hat design, while Lola's Desserts topped the gravity section of the workshop.

In the live cake-decorating competition, Camille Flimn of Cake Couture JA successfully defended her title with her baby shower-themed cake.

All in all, SweetArt Bake Expo was a sweet success.
