Food, frolic at Cookout and Family Fun Day
Foodies who wanted to begin the Lent season in fine, palatable style made their way to Cecil's Car Park, Martin Street, Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Ash Wednesday for the sixth staging of the Cookout and Family Fun Day.
When Food visited the transformed oasis for fun, food and frolic, patrons were eagerly partaking in the magnificent array of seafood and local dishes on display. Fried lobster, curried lobster, garlic lobster, curried shrimp, fried fish, steamed fish and brown stewed fish highlighted the spirit of the Lent season, and had everyone salivating for more.
Meanwhile non-seafood lovers were provided with the culinary choice of curried goat, jerked pork, jerked chicken and mannish water, which were all accompanied by servings of steamed vegetables, tossed salads and fruits.
The cookout, which started out at a restaurant, outgrew it's home and decided to branch out into a bigger space, one more ideal for the occasion. Some foodies decided to dig in right then and there, participating in the entertainment activities available. Others opted to collect their food packages and go about their merry way. All in all, the event was a success and organisers have already begun their plans for the seventh staging for Ash Wednesday 2018.
