Sugar Rush by ‘IrieGal’

What’s better than honey? According to 25-year-old Melissa Dacres-Jones, it’s infused honey! Using her very own homemade recipe, this ‘Irie Gal’ has been tantalising taste buds for the latter part of 2019 and plans on doing so for 2020 and beyond.

Having always loved being in the kitchen and simultaneously wanting to march to the beat of her own drum, Dacres-Jones said goodbye to her nine-five and opened her life to the possibilities of entrepreneurship in food. “After watching a documentary and meeting a few people who are into beekeeping, I started acquiring boxes of my own. However, I never really liked the taste of natural honey,” she explained.

Running out of honey ideas, the Kingston native was encouraged by a friend to give the business a shot.

Flavours

Usually, people tend to just dice a bit of ginger, add it to honey and call it infused. The Irie Gal brand is currently trampling that notion by bringing a millennial twist to your granny’s medicinal treat by playing with flavours, all while ensuring a consistent, quality product.

Suga Berry: Made with dehydrated sorrel and strawberries, this flavour promises a new and exciting tasty trip down gastronomy lane. The bright citrusy strawberry undertones paired with the distinct and palate-pleasing Jamaican sorrel makes the perfect, holiday season cocktail!

Jamaican Maple: Breakfast junkies, this one’s for you. Allow the hints of ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and vanilla beans to serenade your taste buds into sweet morning delight. Pair with pancakes, toast, bread or even add a bit to your coffee for the perfect start to a brand new day.

Sweet Heat: Whether it’s a seafood fiesta or just an ordinary in-house steak dinner date night, spice things up a notch with this hot, peppery addition. Your lover will most likely pitch a tent in your backyard and eat straight from your palms at dinner time.

Chocolate Mawnin’ :Yes, chocolate-infused honey! Festive and flirty, just like the lovely irie gal next door. Adding this to your sweet treats at dessert time will remove the guilt and increase toe-curling foodie pleasures. Dacres-Jones even suggests adding a little to your protein shake. You’ll be happy you did!

No longer should your medicine be boring. And, come on, it’s 2020; we’re living life the healthy way. Ditch traditional honey and sugar and open your mouth, heart and wellness to a bottle of Irie Gal honey!
