If you happen to be in the Ocho Rios area, visit Kris’o Cafe Express because they’re serving breakfast all day! Located upstairs the popular Taj Mahal Plaza, with a view of busy Main Street, this eatery promises a relaxed and rewarding experience.

The breakfast menu is quite extensive and boasts both local and international cuisines to make your toes curl. Ackee and salt fish, callaloo and salt fish, salt mackerel rundown and pretty much any other Jamaican morning delicacy is prepared on any given day. It is served with ground provisions such as yams, bananas, sweet potatoes and, of course, fried ripe plantains.

Food waited patiently to begin the tasting and a dish of callaloo was the first to make its appearance. It had just the right amount of fresh seasonings, butter and salt fish and was cooked to perfection; not overdone and not undercooked. It reminded us of the good ol’ times of getting to granny’s after a long trip. “You eat?” she would ask. And, regardless of whether or not you were full, you knew your food was waiting for you and so you took your seat to devour some real countryside cooking. The ackee and salt fish also reminded us of simpler times. We can all agree that it definitely deserves to be our national dish, and Kris’o found a way to make it just right.

The international cuisine also scored big in our foodie diaries. Waffles, flavoured pancakes, bacon and the most beautiful sunny side up eggs you may ever come across in this vicinity. The waffles and pancakes are quite soft and light on the taste buds with just the right amount of sweet. Yes, they come stacked and topped with your favourite fruits and jellies. Easy options if you’re on the move or just prefer something light as an afternoon snack.

Last, they have quite an extensive coffee selection that is made right before your eyes. The baristas are warm, friendly and seem to enjoy their jobs, which guarantees a memorable time.

All in all, we were quite impressed with Kris’o Cafe Express, and we know you will be, too.
