Janga’s Sound Bar and Grill celebrated its second anniversary and launched a new lounge area last week Tuesday. The Janga’s Appleton Estate Lyric Lounge was launched with Appleton Estate as its partner, which Janga’s has worked with before.

“When we formed the bar, we actually started with no sponsors. We didn’t want to focus on sponsors, we wanted to focus on how fun the bar was, the look and feel of the bar. As you can see, we have a rustic feel and we have some industrial elements and murals. We were focusing on look and feel and enjoyment of the people that came here. We weren’t thinking about sponsors but Appleton approached us and said ‘Look, we’d love to work with you to build your brand’,” Ron Young, one of the proprietors of Janga’s, told Food.

Janga’s motto is ‘Good vibes x Jamaican culture’, so it comes as no surprise that music is a big part of the lounge.

Young told The Gleaner he envisions the Lyric Lounge as a place where people can come and experience the same Janga’s style but with a more laid-back vibe, with the main focus being on the ladies.

“They can sit around and drink and talk while others can get up and move and rock to the music, they can sit down and have their cocktails. We’re focusing a lot on the ladies, so, even though we love all our patrons, the Lyric Lounge is all about the ladies. It’s about feeling like you’re in an episode of Sex in the City but still laid back and in Kingston, Jamaica, and Appleton is a good partner to do that with, because of their estate brand,” said Young.

Without giving away too many details, he shared that there are more plans in place for that location and, soon after that is completed, they will be looking to add new venues.
