Couples Tower Isle brewin’ with new coffee bar

Sun, sand, beach, and now, a coffee bar. Couples’ newest addition to its Tower Isle property in St Mary sticks yet another feather into the cap of the world-famous resort and Brand Jamaica.
Casey and Justin, guests from Wisconsin, United States, couldn’t get enough of the spanking new coffee bar at Tower Isle, which officially opened on April 1, making their fourth trip to the artfully decorated space, featuring murals by Jude Issa.
“It’s good. The coffee here is better than anywhere else we’ve been,” said Casey, adding, “We’ve been to a lot of places and it is the best here.”
Food and Beverage Manager Lennox Green said the coffee bar has been years in the making, a passion of his which he “borrowed” from Couples Negril, after visiting the sister property years ago.
“The coffee bar has been exceptionally well-received,” said Green. “The guests love it. Almost everyone who comes to the property pops in to have a cup of coffee.”
WORLD STANDARD
Brand Jamaica, High Mountain and Blue Mountain coffees get a big push from the coffee bar, which also serves mouth-watering pastries to go along with the brew – hot, cold, frozen, virgin, or with just the right alcohol blend to earn unsolicited praise.
Justin, an avid coffee lover, described the Jamaican coffee experience as “richer and stronger” than he has had elsewhere.
Green said Casey and Justin’s similar sentiments were no coincidence.
“We only use coffee beans, nothing grounded. To ensure we are at world standard, we brought in a trainer for the handpicked staff. For the coffee, we use a lot of High Mountain and Blue Mountain, to an extent,” he pointed out.
“The trainer was quite thorough, going through the entire process, from brewing to the maintenance of the equipment,” he added.
From Negril to Tower Isle and, soon, Sans Souci, after its May 1 closure for renovation, Couples intends to make its coffee bar world-renowned.
“My wish is to make the coffee bar a selling point for the Couples chain and Jamaica,” said a proud Green.
