More than Rum for Breakfast
Rum for Breakfast boasted a wide array of alcoholic beverages at Hope Zoo, Kingston, on Saturday, but the Bacchanal Jamaica team also paid as much attention to diversifying the food options at the popular fête.
GCG Events served up some authentic Jamaican breakfast, opting for the national dish – ackee and salt fish – with bite-sized ground provisions. Chicken lovers were not left out as they offered escovitch chicken bites, balanced with the sweetness of fried ripe plantains and fruits cups for the taking.
Also catering to those who love a good ‘yard style’ breakfast was Brew’d Awakenings whose protein options included stewed chicken and salt fish rundown, served with sides including fried dumplings and fried ripe plantains. They also had jerk chicken which complemented the outdoor, ‘famalay’ gathering, and waffles and eggs for those with an appetite for a classic American breakfast. To top things off, they provided dessert with varied Danish pastries and blueberry muffins.
Not to be outdone was Grace who got creative in using their products for their lunch-style menu. Their jerk chicken pasta, flavoured with their sweet and spicy sauce, was a patron favourite which had to be constantly replenished. They also served sweet and spicy fish which went well with their well-seasoned jerked corn. It wasn’t Tuesday but tacos proved to be the ultimate snack, paired well with their amos and salsa sauce, both of which integrated Grace’s black beans.
Also making use of products they distribute was Chas E Ramson whose blueberry-banana-oats shake was enriched, thanks to Foska’s lactose-free oatmilk. They also served up different yogurts from Elle & Vire.
For snack lovers, Soldanza brought their line of chips while Happy Kones saw several patrons getting gelato for breakfast. Tortuga was also right at home, serving up their signature rum cakes.
