Four past students, including the president of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), have been added to the St George's College Hall of Fame.

PSOJ President Howard Mitchell, Robert Hill, Clovis Metcalfe and Phillip Wong were the latest names to be added to the list of St George's College old boys who have either demonstrated excellence in community spirit, excelled in their respective field, landed national recognition, or delivered service to the school.

Wong, who was the first to be inducted on the night, mentioned that even though he was not born in Jamaica, and does not live in the island, he felt a sense to duty to give back to the college that had helped mould him into the professional he has become.

He said he had been inspired to give back because of the generosity he was shown while he lived in Jamaica and attended St George's College.

Wong earlier this year donated $20 million for the construction of a new entrance at the North Street-based school.

Hill, a leading scholar on Marcus Garvey and an authority on the global influence of pan-Africanism in the 20th century, said his life changed at high school when he was asked to "keep reading" a passage, paragraphs of which the teacher at the time had been asking students to read alternately.

Metcalfe, who is known in the horse racing and betting circles, said he was excited about being inducted in the Hall of Fame.

The highly accomplished businessman, who was at the helm of the committee that was set up to divest the then government-owned Caymanas Track Limited, told the gathering that he had wondered whether he was going to make it out of school given how he started.

"I say this to say, whenever you fall, get up, brush off, move on. This is what St George's College taught us over the years," said Metcalfe, who thanked his family, the class of 1967, and friends for support.
