JDF graduates 220 under National Service Corps programme

Two hundred and twenty recruits graduated in a passing out ceremony at the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) training facility in Moneague, St Ann, on Saturday, after completing the army's 16-week training module.

The recruits represent the fourth cohort to complete training under the Government's Jamaica National Service Corps (JNSC) programme.

Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke said the group was now equipped for employment in the JDF; Jamaica Constabulary Force; Jamaica Customs; Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency; and the private sector.

Clarke, who was the reviewing officer and guest speaker, said 1,500 more young people would be trained under the programme over the next 12 months, in three batches of 500 each, starting October 28.

He said that training under the JNSC programme helps to build character, leadership, judgement, how to be a team player, and the ability to manage emotions and make decisions.

Clarke urged the graduates to make good use of the skills they gained under the programme.

The passing-out parade was attended by hundreds of relatives, friends and well-wishers.
