Cops recover firearm used in Molynes Road hostage situation
The firearm and ammunition used in an attempted robbery and hostage incident in Kingston 10 on Monday night has been seized.
The weapon – a .38 revolver containing six rounds of ammunition – was found behind a toilet about 10:50 a.m. yesterday during a search of the business place along Molynes Road in St Andrew, where the incident took place.
The police were summoned to the location on Monday night to respond to reports of a robbery and hostage situation.
With the assistance of members of the Jamaica Defence Force, they brought the situation to a peaceful end as the men surrendered after one hour. The hostages were freed.
Three men have been arrested pending further investigations.
21 J’cans evacuated from Dorian-hit Abaco Islands
Prime Minister Andrew Holness has revealed that 21 of 31 Jamaicans who requested assistance have been evacuated from Abaco Islands in The Bahamas, which was devastated by the Category Five Hurricane Dorian last week.
Holness, who was speaking in Parliament yesterday, said they are being housed by Jamaica honorary consul to the Bahamas, Terrel Butler.
He said efforts are under way to evacuate the remaining 10 Jamaicans who requested help.
The prime minister said that so far, no Jamaican casualties have been reported among the 50 official deaths in The Abacos and Grand Bahama, which have large Jamaican populations.
