Pepper-sprayed ex-cop ‘Parro’ freed of traffic charges
Retired Superintendent of Police Altamorth ‘Parro’ Campbell was on Wednesday freed in the Kingston Traffic Court of several breaches of the Road Traffic Act.
Campbell was pepper-sprayed by a policeman on June 5, 2019, during a traffic stop on Molynes Road in St Andrew.
He was charged with driving without a seat belt, careless driving, disobeying the police, and having no insurance coverage.
During the testimony of the arresting officer, Constable Gaynor Harrison, attorneys-at-law Bert Samuels and Bianca Samuels challenged the identification evidence.
The arresting officer is now facing assault charges in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court. Campbell and his son are the complainants.
Bert Samuels, in commenting on the case, said the incident was an abuse of the retired superintendent.
He said Campbell had forgotten his driver’s licence and was not given the option, according to law, to produce it within five days at the nearest police station.
Samuels said Campbell was pepper sprayed in an enclosed vehicle where his young son was a passenger.
