Men found suffering from bullet wounds along H View highway
Investigators are probing the circumstances surrounding the early-morning discovery of two men suffering from gunshot wounds along the Sir Florizel Glasspole Highway in Harbour View, St Andrew, yesterday.
They later succumbed to injuries at hospital.
The men – Rodrick Redman of a Bayshore Park address in St Andrew and 40-year-old taxi operator Nechar Melhado – were reportedly travelling in a grey Toyota Probox towards Harbour View.
The police were alerted to the scene about 8:30 a.m. and both Redman and Melhado were rushed to hospital.
Our news team understands that several spent casings were found at the scene, which was processed by detectives.
Traffic was diverted in the interim by the police and caused a gridlock and some commuters heading to work and to the Norman Manley International Airport experienced delays.
“From morning mi hear say this happen and up to minutes to 11, the police tape was still there,” one person complained on Instagram. “It’s ridiculous how the processing of crime scenes are done ... . There must be some other way. It took me 47 minutes from the stop light at Flour Mills to where the scene is. I almost missed my flight.”
Superintendent Tommie-Lee Chambers, head of the East Kingston police division, said further investigations are being carried out.
Up to August 11, East Kingston had recorded a 43 per cent increase in murders and a 100 per cent increase in shootings year on year.
The division witnessed 57 murders this year, compared to 40 for the corresponding period in 2020.
There have been 58 shootings in 2021 compared to 29 as of August 11, 2020.
