LETTER: To NHT/NWC: No water, no life
THE EDITOR, Sir:
In February 2015, the National Housing Trust (NHT) began to hand over to new homeowners units in the
housing scheme developed at Sandhills Vista in Hellshire, St Catherine. Since then, the
homeowners have been experiencing several issues surrounding the houses themselves, but more pressing at this time is the issue of piped water into the development.
It is becoming apparent that there was no effective planning and coordination between the NHT and the National Water Commission (NWC) to settle the piping of water into the scheme. For several months, homeowners have been experiencing unplanned interruptions in their water supply.
At the heart of the issue is a pump which is to be purchased to assist in rectifying the matter. The NWC has indicated that it is the NHTs responsibility to purchase said pump. After a year of handing over units, the NHT is yet to procure this vital equipment to ease the challenge of the residents to whom they have sold units within the development. To date, our collective pestering of both entities have borne no visible fruit.
Further, from meetings with the NHT, the necessary action between themselves and the NWC to rectify the issues will mean no piped water for residents for several months ahead. This we find UNTENABLE!
We, therefore, write to make this matter public, with the hope that the NHT and the NWC will take note and move urgently to remedy our plight, and in particular, for the NHT to deliver on the value which we, homeowners, would have bought into as represented to us by the Trust.
On behalf of the residents of Sandhills Vista, Hellshire, St Catherine
