Seven-month delay at Companies Office of Jamaica

Published:Thursday | December 12, 2024 | 12:08 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I write to express my deep concern and disappointment at the excessive delay I experienced with the Companies Office of Jamaica (COJ) in processing a business registration application.

Typically, the COJ advertises a processing time of three to five business days for business registration. However, my application has been pending for over seven months, causing significant inconvenience and financial repercussions. Despite repeated follow-ups and inquiries, I have not received a satisfactory explanation or resolution.

This prolonged delay raises questions about the efficiency and accountability of the COJ in delivering critical services to Jamaican entrepreneurs. Timely business registration is essential for fostering economic growth and supporting small business owners. Delays of this magnitude undermine confidence in the system.

I urge the COJ to address this issue promptly and implement measures to ensure that such delays do not reoccur. I also encourage other affected individuals to come forward so that systemic improvements can be made.
