The fire, which occurred on March 6, claimed the lives of three children and destroyed two houses.

Transport, Works and Housing Minister Dr Omar Davies who is also Member of Parliament for South St Andrew, visited the area on Friday and spoke with the fire victims to ascertain the level of assistance and support required.

The minister was accompanied by Government officials, members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force; councillor for the Admiral Town Division, Marcia Neita; as well as representatives from Carib Cement Company and Tropicair Limited.

Davies, in expressing condolences, pledged his full assistance to the families affected.

He told journalists that in the case of one set of victims, the level of assistance has already been decided on, while plans for the remaining persons are to be finalised.

"In terms of (one) unit here, I'll give a commitment that it will be rebuilt," he said. "I have to get a quantity surveyor to find out what is needed," Davies added.

The children, who perished in the fire, were nine-year-old Abigail Reid, Leonardo Morris, 15, and 17-year-old Bebeto Harris.
